We dont wash out PLASTIC utensils at my house and re-use them. Does anyone else?
Yes, it's a huge waste to use once and throw them away. You use plastic cups, mugs, plates and tupperware, wash and reuse, right? What's wrong with doing that with plasticware? You can do it until the plastic gets damaged. While I may dispose of plasticware when I entertain outside the house (like a picnic, helping run an outside event, etc), if I used plasticware in the house, we wash and reuse where possible. As an added aside, it also means that we throw less non-biodegradable mass into the landfills. However, we've stopped using disposable plates and plasticware even for parties at our home. Several years ago, we purchased an extra set of Corelle and inexpensive stainless flatware. We keep this set of service for 48 in a crate in a storage closet, take it out for parties, toss everything in the dishwasher after the party and when it comes out, pack it back in the crate for the next party. We've used this stuff a few dozen times and it has more than paid for itself in just the savings of paper plates, plasticware, and extra garbage bags, etc that we haven't purchased.
