DC has artificially low speed limits as a means to collect revenue. There is going to be an article coming out about this in Huffington post. No, we should not just bow down and pay the tickets every singe time. It's ridiculous that they would have 25/mph speed zones on 6 lane roads. They need to be in accordance with the needs of the neighborhood and what the public wants. Also, 125 price has NOTHING to do with previous tickets. It's because of how fast she was going. That's it. I got a $125 ticket for going 39 in a 25 mile zone on Michigan Ave (6 lane road). I paid the ticket because I WAS speeding. Fine. However, I am fighting to get the speed limits raised to something other than a cash machine for the city.
Well, this part of the public is pleased that the speed limits are low, and has no problem using fines to generate revenue. I'm curious - are you similarly up in arms about the speed of Conn. Ave. just north of the Chevy Chase Circle?
Why? Because you like congestion in the city? They have imposed artificially low speed limits on most of the major arteries in the city. The speed limits have nothing to do with safety. They are a pure money grab and I am NEVER in favor of any branch of the government doing that. Are you in favor of driving 35 on the interstate too? WTH Learn how to drive safely and you don't have a problem. I live in the city and already pay taxes. That should suffice. There are people coming into this city every morning, contributing to the ecomony of it, that don't need this stupid DC shit. I
Another fan of the low speed limits of DC. I live in the City (and not CCDC which I don't count). I have people from Maryland come zooming by on my road (25 mph limit) at 45 mph every day. Slow the FUCK down. Also, is there some reason that people don't stop at stop signs anymore?
