If you are highly concerned about crime, avoid JHU and Chicago entirely.

Penn is safer than JHU and Chicago, but near some crappy areas.

Yale and Columbia are fine as long as you keep your wits about you and, in Columbia's case, avoid venturing into Morningside Park.  [/quote]
