It makes it easier to move on, but not impossible. They should give it a good try though. Every child by end of grade 4 should have multiplication tables down (even by end of 3rd grade). But if they do not, it does not automatically mean higher math is out. I have a math degree from a prestigious university and never completely learned my tables (GPA 3.6). Still have trouble with the 8's. :)[/quote] Me too - I know my sevens only because of football. Kids need to understand the concept but immediacy in 4 and 5 grade is shoudl not stop a kid from advanced math. You can tell all the kids that are great memorizers fail geormety because it requires understanding and logic.[/quote]
