I think Council got a message last night over the way they handled the SRO question. Amy Jackson got the most votes, and is now Vice Mayor. She was also the only returning council member (along with the Mayor) who consistently maintained support for keeping SROs in the schools. Meanwhile Chapman and Aguirre got back in, but they rode the Democrat wave and they got lower numbers than all but one of the other candidates.
Chapman had the third highest vote total down from the first highest last election. Canek was a few thousand lower and I bet that difference was due to the SRO issue but it was not enough for him to lose to Nirenberg.
! Apologies. I should have made clear they got lower numbers than all but one of the Democrat candidates! It's a dark blue town, so it takes something truly extraordinary to get a non-Dem in, but I do know that among themselves they pay attention to their "rank" among the votes, so again I say Aguirre and Chapman got a message.
