Pretty weird PP can't imagine anyone thinking the series is sad. It is the sadness that makes it more than just a creepy vampire story, not the other way around. I found Joe Collie and all his interactions with Lisa terribly sad, and honestly his entire storyline was so sad. Riley's storyline was incredibly sad, although in the end he was given a gift few others were of peace. The scene with the Sherriff's son in the church made my heart literally clench in grief. I felt palpable sadness for that choice. And seeing them together in the end I felt incredible sadness but also of course tinged with relief that they found peace. The miscarriage was heartbreaking, the sight of a mother refusing to accept that her son had died was heartbreaking, the sight of a man who wanted to give a gift realizing he had done something terrible was heartbreaking. It was very sad. And the priests speech about how God must hear death the way you feel at the foot of a waterfall with each drop being a lost soul I felt was terribly sad and poignant. I don't often lose sleep over a show but I genuinely was unsettled last night after finishing it. I think in the end this was a show about the flawed human condition but also about hope, striving for better, about how faith can be simply clothing you use to celebrate your goodness or hide your badness. And now, SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But hey, something I feel hasn't been discussed here. Wannabe sissy spacek definitely killed the priest right? He was just like them, young and healed until he died in the rectory. She poisoned him like the she poisoned the dog (another terribly sad moment!). I think she didn't like that he was getting so much attention and literally tried to murder him and then was surprised when she had a resurrection on her hands.
