I thought herd immunity was the goal. Is the goal now to have zero cases? 103 positive cases. Out of over 1 million people. That is a tiny number.
No. It's October 2021, not December 2020. 103 NEW positive cases yesterday. A seven-day new case rate of 61.58 per 100,000 residents. The last times Montgomery County was at about that level were August 7, 2021, and April 22, 2021. And October 13, 2020, but that was obviously before the vaccines. It's possible to make a valid argument that the current public-health response to covid is inappropriate because [reasons], but it's not possible to make a valid argument that covid is over.
With over 90% of people vaccinated, the 103 positive cases is almost irrelevant. People will continue to catch and transmit Covid even when vaccinated. Even if the county was 100% vaccinated, we would still see positive cases. We need to look at how many deaths (and maybe hospitalizations). How many deaths were there in the county due to Covid yesterday? Go ahead and look it up. I’ll wait. Nobody is saying ‘Covid is over’, but yeah - the current public health response is worse than inappropriate and has been for months. Especially with regards to kids.
You are saying it is over to justify your poor behavior. Mcps is not reflective of that vaccine rate. And except if you’ve has a blood test for all vaccines you casnot say you are fully vaccinated. There are outbreaks in Maryland at schools. Why do we need a dead kid or two to take this seriously. This isn’t going to end alone with these vaccines.
What???? This makes zero sense. the 100 positive cases includes MCPS students, who are in school, unvaccinated, and wearing masks. 100 cases is nearly irrelevant, and case count itself is irrelevant when 90% or more of eligible people are vaccinated. We need to focus not on cases, but on hospitalizations (which have been increasingly low and there is no strain on the MoCo hospitals). Once kids have the option to be vaccinated, we should remove all restrictions.
THIS We need to focus on hospitalizations and deaths. The number of cases is irrelevant. Our goal has always been not to overburden the hospitals. We have been immensely successful with that in Maryland. Why are our kids still being punished in this county?
