It wasn't until I got on this board that I realized Alabama was considered a good option by some. Boulder is a much better place than Tuscaloosa.
My senior has looked at both and strongly prefers Tuscaloosa/Alabama. My husband took my senior to Boulder last weekend to visit and described the city as "Berkley with money" (he grew up in the bay area and that description is not meant to be a compliment.)
Depends on what you like whether or not it is a compliment, but as someone who has spent time in both berkeley and boulder, that is a pretty good description. It also is more suburban feeling than Berkeley, almost felt like a midwest mid-size city in terms of stores commerce. The weather is really good, not a serious winter but with mountains. The school is pretty well known in engineering, especially aerospace, but I don't know about "prestigious".
