There is no competition here. There is nothing better on this earth than a German Shepherd Dog. No breed even comes close.
German Shepherds as family pets are terrible. They need way more exercise, training, and mental stimulation than an average family can provide. I have been charged by MULTIPLE German Shepherds while walking my dog. Their owners seemed to believe they were under voice control.... They tend to become dog reactive and extremely protective. I used to work at a doggy daycare and German Shepherds were trouble makers and constantly needed to be removed from the group. They were worse than the huskies. Rescues are full of 6-12 month old German Shepherds because their teen months are horrible. I also just saw a post on my Facebook feed of a family begging someone to take their 7 month old German Shepherd because it has repeatedly nipped at the kids. Someone on DCUM keeps recommending them as the perfect family pet. There are so many better options!
I’ve had German Shepherd Dogs all my life. I’ve never seen any of these behaviors. This isn’t a breed issue. It’s a training issue.
