I don't have kids in OP's demographic so I don't have advice. So while I understand some of the fears expressed, this PP right here really hits me in the feels. I think helicopter parenting has helped kill the village. It's not the only cause but it's part of it.[/quote]

Huh?  Parents should be parenting and there is no need for kids to go outside of their family for parenting attention.  There has never been a village.  There are active responsible parents who then feel sorry for kids whose parents don't care and end up parenting them as well.  A village would be mutual.  Usually its very one sided.[/quote]
