If op was a DH you would all be eating him alive for skipping out on family time to train for a race and do work Since I'm not sexist I'll go ahead and rip OP a new one. Press pause on your life for 2 weeks and go on the trip.
First off, since there is lots and lots of evidence that men--even men in households where both parents work full-time--spend significantly less time on childcare, I think it's reasonable for people to suggest that might be a different circumstance than OP's. Second, if a mother really wanted to do a two week vacation, and a father really wanted to do a one week vacation, then they could come up with compromises. 1. Whole family one week, mom and kids (and maybe another relative) week 2. 2. Just a one week trip now, another one week trip later. 3. Father gets his one week at home, mother gets her own version of "one week". She can decide what that looks like: at home by herself, away by herself. Whatever.
And non of that negates that if a DH posted he couldn't do a 2 week vacation even though his wife and kids were begging him to because of work, training for the race, and dog he'd be chewed up.
