The cousin took an item, that according to the family rules was not to be touched/shared by other family members, and proceeded to have a friend's child (not even a family member!) jump on it and break it. Cousin was in the wrong here. Cousin is not an owner, also got free use of the beach house, proceeded to take something that didn't belong to him and break it. And this is OP's fault how?
