Stand where you’ve been standing, but turn around so your back is to the curb. You should still be able to see the bus. If you’re facing the road, an approaching bus is 90 degrees to the side, same if you turn fully around. I think you’ll feel and look silly, but it’ll work.
This. Don't face the curb. Face the direction that the bus will be coming from so that it is obvious you are looking for or waiting for something.
I think when I do this people think I'm looking for traffic. There's no way for me to see the bus coming and not see the traffic. Buses blow past often, and so I'm not willing to stand so that I can't see the bus often, because it adds 20 - 30 minutes to my commute.
Sit in a beach chair then as a PP suggested. Leave the chair at the stop. You could keep the laminated picket sign there too.
So, I should just buy a new beach chair every day? Taking the bus is supposed to be a cost saving measure.
