Not Denver proper, but Fort Collins is our intended retirement destination.
FTC has horrible traffic, it’s not what it was 20-years ago. Everyone is moving there now. It used to be too far north, now people commute to Denver from FTC. I-25 northbound / southbound his horrible all the time - even Sunday afternoons you’re sitting in traffic. Denver metro has become waaaay overcrowded and good luck finding a house you want in a town / city that’s nice. We’ve had multiple offers on our home and it’s not for sale or anything special (Boulder county). $100k over appraisal plus 12-mo of rent-back for free was our latest offer. It was a hard pass … if they have to go to that extreme, I don’t want to be on the other side looking for a home.
PP here. We visit CO almost annually and have watched the traffic - and sprawl - and home prices get worse and worse over the years, including in Fort Collins. On the bright side, as retirees we won't need to worry so much about traffic, and real estate prices will have to really go nuts to prevent us from buying almost any place we want with what we'll make from selling our DC area home.
