I'm an SC native and most of the population there has had no access to anything resembling a fair justice system (including fair banking, property rights, etc) for most of its history, and many would make credible arguments that they still don't. It's part of America but totally out of compliance with the Constitution for much more time than not. Unfairness and oppression are its defining characteristic. Notions of southern "grace" or "honor" are the kabuki on top of systemic, state-sponsored violent terror. Driving to the beach through that part of the country gives me the heebeejeebees, and I'm white. [/quote]

But truly I think the people who fall all over themselves to come to the South’s defense against the meanie yankee liberals are all actually okay with that because they are (or think they are) the beneficiaries of the situation and deep down they don’t see anything wrong with it.
