Folks are moving or carpool? We plan to ride ebike. Hopeful for shuttle. We actually did lottery into MV but turned it down ... perhaps will regret it someday. Still feels too new.
Would you ebike downtown after? In bad weather? Trying to think that through because we’ve never bike commuted across town without a backup plan.
Yes exactly. Probably not in poor weather. In that case maybe park and take the 16th street bus? Honestly doubt either of us will have to work in person every day, so hoping to work things out between carpools, shuttle, ebike, and just driving. If parents can split the duty it’s much easier.
That sounds exhausting. Imagine the time and energy you would save by attending a school near your home. Quality of life is important.
It’s not actually that far. Do you take your kids across town to any activities? Is it exhausting? We do it for the education we want our kids to have. That’s also important.
DP. Yeah but twice a day, 5 days a week for 5-8 years is an entirely different commitment. There’s a cost benefit that goes into whether that commute is worth the incremental increase of that particular school versus a neighborhood option (of which there are many in Brookland).
Increase of LAMB over our IB or local DCPS? Yes, worth it. Other charters? We’d need to lottery in which so far we haven’t except once. We did our homework and made this decision. Having both Montessori and Spanish is truly rare and for us it’s worth it.
Good luck but the grind and stress will wear you down. Others have tried and and decided it wasn’t worth it.
And others have done it and decided it was worth it. We did it for 4 years from 16th St. Heights, (living close to Kingsbury), to Taylor St. & then SD. It wasn't as nice as walking to our neighborhood school, but lots and lots of us did it and very few of those families have left the school. So many long-time families at the school understood that we were in a charter school that could move at any time and had the right to do it. It is the price you pay for choosing a charter school. And no one expected the school to shuttle our kids. Our children have gone to 5 different campuses in the 10+ years we have been a LAMB family!
5 campuses? Why do they move so often?
