OP. I am on a very tight budget. Actually even the dying phone I was thinking of replacing with an older model, used from Ebay so don't have the bandwidth for seasonal items, luggage or furniture etc. Aunt wanted to help out as it's not been a great couple of years for me and she was likely re-gifting. She is of limited means herself. We met after 1.5 years. I tried saying no but she felt offended so I took them. I now have 5 X $100 GC. I am on my sister's Costco membership so get home supplies there. I was just wondering if there is stuff at HD that may be cheaper. I guess paper towels, TP it is for the next 5 yrs. I tried looking at sites to sell the GCs but with fees didn't think that was a great idea. Thanks all. So let me recap: You don't want to sell it for cash. You don't want to buy anything useful or decorative for your place. You don't have any need for home improvement supplies. You prefer to buy paper goods at Costco. Stop asking for help if what you really want to do is pout that your aunt didn't buy you a new phone. You seem to have missed the point that they are strapped for cash. Things people are suggesting here are not essentials. Save the paper products which OP seems to understand will meet their needs. My parents are now in a condo and gave me Home Depot cards as they didn’t use them anymore. I understand. I hadn’t. Stepped foot in a home improvement store when I was in an apartment. Like a PP said then people don’t know what to do with it. And who would suggest buying those phones from HD. Also when you are strapped for cash you try to make it stretch. So getting $80 for $100 or buying items there that are cheaper elsewhere doesn’t sit well. I understand.
But if you are strapped for cash and can sell something that you got for free for $400 or $450, even if it has a value to someone else of $500, isn't that better than holding onto it and getting $0? OP seems determined to get sympathy, not solutions.
