I enjoy quirky people, and listening to opinions I don't agree with. I think it's important to see an issue from all angles and to try to understand other opinions. Sticking to your own narrow viewpoints turns you into a narrow minded person. Imagine a nation where everyone walks in lockstep with everyone else. Not good. Let your BIL be. He's entitled to his opinions, and you don't have to agree with him. Have your sister come to your house for visits, and tell her not to bring him.
Laughing at someone's death isn't quirky or a difference of opinion. It's inhuman! People like you are as bad as the violent extremists themselves.
Oh sorry - I got groups mixed up. So Q'Anon is one of those groups that stormed the Capitol? Yeah, don't approve of that at all. Not sure who's laughing at the death of someone but not something I would approve of.
The brother-in-law responded a laughing emoji when his son or daughter posted about a fellow teacher who died of covid. That’s cruel. The deceased teacher’s family and friends most likely saw that.
A dear friend of mine's husband went off the deep end like that as well - I went to college with him, he was very smart, got himself a great-paying job in IT but then randomly quit that for a low wage menial job with shitty hours and then got progressively more and more entangled in wackjob conspiracy theories. I still keep in touch with my friend but the last straw for me with him was one day when he and I were talking and he went off on a rant about how he thought the Sandy Hook school shooting was a "false flag" and that the victims families were "actors" - and then went on about how he tracked down the contact info for the families and was "calling them to confront them." How awful, to be harassing families who lost their children to a maniac shooter. I never spoke to him again after that. And to be honest I worry about my friend's safety and wellbeing as she is still with him - she knows she cheese has slipped off his cracker, he is full blown QAnon whereas she secretly voted for Biden - she tries to avoid talking any politics at all with him, they only stay together because they have a daughter. I tend to think that kind of behavior must be like a degenerative mental disease.
