I don’t know the circumstances, but wouldn’t having direct experience with the game be relevant to soccer discussion?

I'm the one that wrote the first post that was quoted above and I agree with this last post.  Things are SOOOOOOO different now.  I know many people that that played in college 25 years ago and are clueless. It doesn't mean that they are good coaches.  It doesn't mean that they can connect with kids. Doesn't mean that they know what is best for kids development. For example....I went through K-12 and have a masters degeree...it doesn't mean know what the best teaching methods are for today's kids.[/quote]

And no, playing in college 15-20 years ago does NOT mean that you know how to navigate today's league structures and college recruiting, etc.  Someone also brought up training and injury.  Every thing has changed....what we know about performance training, injury prevention, etc is much different. Just about everything has changed.  I'm not saying I don't value other people's opinions. I'm just saying that I don't value someone's opinion JUST because they played college soccer 15-20 years ago.[/quote]

That’s great.  I don’t value the opinion of someone who has never played the sport, especially when they are loud on the sidelines and think what they are suggesting to a 11-year old is easy.  It takes time for a striker to develop the depth perception and timing of a shot...what looks like an easy 1v1 on a breakaway and clear shot is anything but for a kid learning.

So many parents watch FIFA and come to kid games mouthing off from the sidelines and expecting the same kind of play.[/quote]
