Guess they are expecting a lot of new players on the ECNL teams. Rumors are anywhere from 4-12 girls depending on the age group. The biggest impact in the 08’s because COVID and DA to GA to ECNL but other ages will see the same thing. This will push girls down to Red and Red to White, etc. I have a hard time believing any girl trying out for ECNL would take a Red team position. I wonder how many GA girls would take Red or look for a new team?
Nothing says U14 Arlington players like "If I'm not top team I won't play for the club"
Stop being deliberately provocative. The issue is that some kids are commuting quite a distance for the chance to play on a competitive team with the attendant development and recruiting advantages. If you get cut, and Arlington is your local club, then you stay on the red team. But if you were commuting fifteen miles to play in the A team and you get cut, then you probably find a more local club rather than continue to commute to play on the B team. There's nothing obnoxious about that - it's just common sense.
Are there a lot of non-Arlington (non-Arl residents) players currently on the 08 team?
That's a good question, and I agree with the prior poster about commuting and such. The 08s and their families should know who's starting, who isn't, and who might be on the bubble to get cut. It's clear that Arlington is making an active play to be one of the more competitive clubs in the area, across boys and girls, and need to handle tryouts and cuts accordingly if they want to follow through on that vision. The Arlington parents whose kids make the top teams will be happy with the direction. The Arlington parents whose kids are playing on Red or White for the first time will not be pleased. And if the club is able to hold firm against those displeased parents, then we'll all know that they are serious about making this move.
