They picked it because they are taking down statues, renaming buildings, and confronting a racist past. They went there to intimidate people, lead by two disgruntled, white supremacist alumni.

+1000.  Same person who ignorantly associates UVA with tiki-torches, conveniently avoiding the fact that no students were on campus in August. I was there when it happened. The protesters had a permit for the park where the statue was to be removed. No one knew they were going to appear the night before at UVA. [/quote]
