He is really careful about what he says. More recently at ward three education network meeting he said that getting back five days per week versus hybrid would depend on how many people got vaccinated and that there are too many unknowns. I am concerned that teachers will still petition to stay at home in numbers significant enough to mean a combo of hybrid for some, DL for some (with t the teachers that petitioned doing the DL) and full in person for iep etc. It will be decided school by school probably. In the absence of parent advocacy efforts making a difference I think that this is how it will play out. It makes sense that the pandemic will not be completely behind us because according to the experts herd immunity may not take place until 85 percent are vaccinated. Not only will children not be vaccinated but vaccine hesitancy is high among those most at risk in DC. The teachers will be able to point tt out that vaccines are not fully effective against the variants so the teachers with health problems of which there are many will stay home. This is i think what DME is seeing. With a big parent advocacy effort, however, I think that the changing of cdc guidelines and surrounding districts reopening will put pressure. It will come down to where the city feels the most pressure - from the WTU or parents. They may in any case use Wednesdays as a bargaining chip to try to get cooperation from t teachers by making them a planning day. Hope I'm wrong![/quote]
