Here is the latest guidance from VDOE to school divisions. Parents refusing in-school SOL testing should cite concerns relating to COVID-19 so that "Testing Status 52 - Refusal Due to COVID-19" and a "no score" will be assigned to the record. Also, not sure if FCPS will offer Virginia Remote Student Progress Tests in May for virtual students whose parents refused in-school testing. https://www.doe.virginia.gov/administrators/superintendents_memos/2021/053-21.pdf
I don't want to give Covid as a reason. What do we say if we want the no-takes to punish FCPS?
This is not an option. The only way to punish FCPS is to have your kid take the test and do poorly. Honestly, this is the reason I would refuse to do additional asynchronous prep. The SOLS DO NOT affect your child, they affect the school's/school system's success metrics. This is why FCPS schools will give the test earlier in the year, do remediation/cramming for kids who fail, and then have them retake it. We figured that out in 4th grade with our special needs kid, and, if the school isn't teaching my kid enough to pass a basic SOL, I'm sure as hell not making my kid do test prep to give them the score.
