I hope this isn’t true for you, but my in laws have been radicalized the past couple years by Fox News, Newsmax, etc. Our previous 15 years of a great relationship has deteriorated over the past year or so. I’m sure the pandemic and not seeing each other over (just once in the last year) contributes. But I think they’re mad at us for something (staying away when they live their lives pretty normally? Voting for Biden? Something more- whatever QAnon told them we did??)
I don’t mean to make this thread political, but have you considered the possibility that cnn, msnbc, and the like have also radicalized your views a bit farther left? We’re such a divided nation but I think it’s super telling when cnn is so willing to label a bunch of yelling yokels armed with cell phones for taking selfies as an “insurrection” but totally ignores that President Clinton commuted the sentence of a woman (Susan rosenberg) who literally BOMBED the senate building in 1983. Sure, it’s a bit of “whatabout-ism” but c’mon man! What *about* it??? She went on to serve as vice chair for Thousand Currents which handles fundraising for the BLM Global Movement. But yeah, nothing to see there. We need to be sure to stop the rise of right-wing radicalization.
Please tell me how your characterization of January 6 as: "a bunch of yelling yokels armed with cell phones for taking selfies as an “insurrection”" is objective when it literally ignores the actual deaths and injuries to police defending the Capital that occurred? It ignores this is the first time the confederate flag has been brought in the U.S. Capital. The fact that the "yokels" we breaking windows, carrying a noose, and yelling for the Vice President. Yes, there were yokels with cell phones. But there was ALSO a lot more than that. And they did disrupt a cornerstone of our constitutional process. Your dismissiveness is telling.
