I think they all will be open. Rates are plummeting and we will all have had the opportunity to be vaccinated by them. The small risk to kids with low community rates will not justify staying hybrid. I’m still going private because I think low rates should allow school to be normal (no masks, distancing, recess, etc). I am not a COVID denier but with low rates and adult vaccines, kids should get their lives back.
I understand what you’re saying, but closing schools was because Trump said to open them, not about science or health. Assuming the decision will be made based on science seems silly at this point. My thought was that maybe a purple-ish county would give us a better chance of school.
I think you’re partially wrong here. RTS is a much more bipartisan issue than most things. I don’t think blue states made decisions to defy Trump. Lot of be Very angry liberal parents about these calls. 60% of FCPS parents wanted to go back. I think people (rightfully) didn’t trust Trump or a Trump affiliated science. Without reliable data, they were scared to go back. After that, blue states were frozen because of teachers unions. Which is infuriating, because we are supposed to be the party of investing in kids.
Welp, that ship sailed. Now the party of screwing working moms & all children. Unbelievable! I’m seething.
yeah, the GOP does wonders for working families
The GOP sucks in most ways but is 100% better on education.
No they aren’t. You are saying that right now because they are pro opening but GOP DEFUNDS schools. They wouldn’t fund counselors for mental health. They allow gerrymandered districts that are a mess and crappy charters with no oversight and curriculum that’s garbage.
Yep. It’s definitely the lesser of 2 bad situations. But FCPS is only teaching my junior 2/3 of the AP curriculum even though the full test will be given because most students had access to the full class. And let’s talk virtual tech class and orchestra. The curriculum is garbage. FCPS is a dysfunctional mess. And learning in the basement for a year is what has made my HS kid need mental health services in the first place. If schools aren’t open, and I mean 5 days a week for my college bound kid, why should I not have options. I can judge curriculum and results and make my choices. I bet a lot that The private VAVA has better AP,scores than FCPS— because they had synchronous Monday and covered the material. You can’t Kafka knowing calculus. Im sorry we’ve reached this place. But now that no one is talking about a full reaping plan 18 months after COVID and after all adults will be vaccinated in the fall, here we are. You keep telling me it’s my responsibility to parent my kid and own my choices. Well, my parenting decision is she needs 5:days a week of school next year. Not 4 concurrent and let’s do homework on Mondays, which is what we have now. The GOP cares more about my kids than the Dems, who don’t even pretend they care about anyone except unions. And since I have been reminded I am 100% responsible for my kids education, I want a voucher to get her a better on. FCPS teachers have convinced me. They have no responsibility to educate my child properly. That’s my role. So I will.
This. I think democrats are missing the fact that cancelling public school perpetually is THE BIGGEST DEAL for families like mine. We both work and are plunged into either chaos or having to come up with an extra 40k a year. I’ll vote for aggressively getting to 5/day week school regardless of political party and this has become the #1 issue to me.
Same. I will vote GOP school board and support the recall efforts. If kids aren't in school, we can't work. It's that simple.
Same here. I am a Dem but I’m disgusted by this past year of public schooling.
