Those of you who say teachers on zoom - does that mean no teacher will be in the classroom? Just a random monitor? And schools think parents will be ok with that? Everyone I know who selected to return in person did it with the assumption that the teacher would be there. If schools are planning monitors around the numbers from the survey they're going to have a big issue...
What exactly are parents going to do about? About the only thing they can do is switch to DL and, frankly, I bet the schools would be thrilled if more people switched to DL. More conspiratorial people out there might think that they are making in-person as unappealing as possible to reduce the number of people actually doing it.
What if the teachers WANT to be in person? What happens then? I know a lot of teachers of younger kids who are dying to be back in person. Not to mention the inequity of why it's safe to have a monitor in class but not a teacher. What school wants to deal with those questions? Not to mention why should teachers be vaccinated if they're staying home?
As for a teacher who wants to be back in school, I don't think MCPS cares any more about that teacher's desire than it does parents' desires for kids to be in school. They are going to do what's best or easiest for the system as a whole. As for dealing with the inequities of having low paid monitors in the classrooms (monitors who at least initially likely won't be vaccinated because many are just being hired and even teachers can't get appointments), they will brush aside the questions. Yes, it is inequitable but those low paid aides don't have the clout of MCEA, so what are they going to do about it.
