The year is a wash. I wish schools would simply decide that EVERYONE will repeat their grade next year. A pandemic is a once a century event and our country has failed miserably to manage our way through it. We are going to have a ‘9/11s worth’ of people dying daily for the next several weeks. There is no public grieving or even a moments is silence for the dead. No real economic support got families that are struggling to survive. Personally I could GAF about school this year - our family has lost 2 people to this disease, one was a health worker. I just want to get through this.
thank you. this is how i feel. my only issue for the repeat would be how does this work for HS students, seniors. but for elementary school definitely. i always say an extra year to save for college
I'm a teacher and I feel this way too, we should stop trying to pretend kids are learning. But you have to be practical about the impossibility that the current grade level will be repeated en masse - the parents of rising K students are SOL and going to have to wait another year? What about parents who don't want to their kids to repeat? There are endless scenarios and stakeholders and it is just not going to happen even if it makes sense on the personal level.
