We got a propane fire table. It's definitely a little bit lame. It doesn't have that nice wood smell, it doesn't look as pretty as a wood fire, and if you burn the marshmallows, they taste a little bit like propane. BUT, it's so fast and easy. We can use it at any time. It takes under a minute to get going and then the kids can go out and make s'mores. We can sit around the fire for half an hour (or 15 minutes, or 5), and be done. It's plenty warm. Also, if you care about that sort of thing, MoCo regulations say that a wood burning fire pit needs to be at least 20 feet away from the house, and our yard will not accommodate that. This is the one we got. It's totally fine. The four of us fit around it nicely. The edge of the table is good for setting down a glass or the plate of s'mores fixings. The propane tank is nicely hidden under the table, and it came with both a lid and a cover. My only complaint is that the cover is super lightweight and blows right off at the slightest breeze, so you need something to hold it down. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B085VVHZYX/ref=p...in_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I haven't noticed the propane taste on marshmellows. The other thing I like about our propane one is that my 11 year old can safely operate it with minimal supervison. I'm not sure I would feel comfortable leaving him and his friends outside on their own for a few hours with a solo stove.
