It is a vocal minority that wants schools in person. NYC proved that. They managed to hold in person instruction for maybe a month and a half, and even then were never more than 10 or 20 percent enrolled. A majority of parents are fine with schools closed and their kids attending virtually, and you don't hear much from them because they already have what they want. And now with a vaccine coming, it will stay this way until the summer.
^^This DL sucks; having my kid home sucks. But for now its the best option - I look forward to the day when I look back on this and "cherish" the time we spent together. BTW right now he's zoned out in front of the TV; I'm working (DCUM) break so I can get some work in before the DL interruptions. SUCKS big time - but I can't go hang out with a friend at her house; I can't drive and drop him off at Grandmas; can't go mall shopping or see a movie so for now I work on a nice Saturday afternoon and clean out a closet and "try" to play with my kid (maybe do a reading or math game). I talk to all my mom friends and no one is screaming to get back. They are struggling too but dealing with the healthcare system now with a sick kid would be worse esp for the ones with multiples and small housing spaces.
you’re in a bubble. my mom friends want their kids to return to school or already have them in public and private schools in DC and elsewhere.
Sorry all of my friends do want their kids to return to school - but when its safe. not when rates are going up; half the city has clearly left to get infected "back home" and flu season is among up. some of the mom parents include an epidemiologist and biologist who are reading the scientific information. one is a shift working mom with 5 kids in a 2 bedroom apartment. she doesn't want to go back until its safe. and it sucks for her more than all of us even with her husband doing half the load.
