It may seem silly but this is what went wrong. Each time we'd met previously, we'd sat at a large table. Most of the time, I think we even faced slightly different directions----he faced me, I propped my back against the wall and was therefore perpendicular to him. We had great, robust, casual conversations. I had a really nice time.

Then, I made the mistake of sitting at a small bistro table. We sat knee to knee, elbows on the table, with our faces maybe a foot apart. Twenty minutes in and my heart was pounding, I just wanted to get out of there. It was a very different experience. It un-nerved me so much that I basically stopped meeting with him. No more friendly hugs when we meet in the street. Awkward waves instead.

It was a remarkable wake-up call for me. Evidently, I've be re-virginized.

The divorce papers have been signed. The baby is due in just a couple more weeks. Other priorities have taken hold of my time.

Still---lesson learned.
