-Also agree with the largest single bowl sink, and a second one in the island. I know it's controversial, but ours is on the side of the island, and it's great to have two people working in the kitchen, as well as using it filled with ice and drinks at parties. 
-For the microwave, I skipped the drawer, I think it's hard to get things in and out of it, but definitely go for a convection microwave, which gives you an extra oven for those times you need it. Christmas, Thanksgiving, Etc.
- lots of lighting options. We have lights over the eat-in kitchen table, lights over the island to use for working, lights over the sink, and then general overhead lights (on dimmere). Lots of switches, but I figured them out pretty quickly.[/quote]
