Ridiculous.  As a NASA employee, I can say that sending a branch of the military to do scientific exploration makes about as much sense as assigning Jared Kushner and a team of corporate execs to handle pandemic response.  But then, not surprising, but both ideas came out of the same administration.[/quote]

It’s not about the military doing scientific exploration, rocket scientist. It’s about making sure the scientists are able to explore in the first place. Which will be a little difficult for you nasa folks if the Chinese declare ownership of the moon and we have no way of contesting that.

Do you even realize that the USAF used to be “The United States Army Air Corps”?

The Army “had it covered”, until 1947.

At the time the Air Force was created, we had already had fought a war in which air power was a decisive factor, had thousands of planes and pilots, could fly anywhere in the world, and we were starting major new research into jet power.  As of today no battle has ever been fought in space, no nation has any space-based soldiers and there are no weapons in space.  [/quote]
