[/quote] Might work for generic/low demand majors. Bad advice if you are applying to in-demand majors. Some kids get into Georgia Tech and not into Purdue for CS (Tech is a higher ranked school). With this type of uncertainty, why take chances. When someone applies to 17 schools, they likely have ranking in their mind and will likely pick the best school they get into.
