Autopsies proved the girls were still breathing or at least living when they were put in the oil drums.

Also I don't think the initial reason he killed the girls was to cover up his wife's murder. [b]Remember he strangled both kids first, then he went after the wife in bed. The kids woke up from his suffocation attempt[/b] and he bundled them into the truck with the mother's dead body.

I don’t think that info was included in the documentary. He said that he killed his wife first and then the kids at the worksite. Maybe I just wasn’t paying close enough attention?
