Yeah but the timing is ridiculous. I believe schools should open but we all know there is a lot of work that needs to be done to make sure school opens safely.. If he'd said this much earlier in the summer then ok but saying it after schools already have announced and implemented distance learning plans looks like pander to Trump. As a Republican Governor, Hogan can say " Mr President, I told them to open, I've done all I can" while knowing full well the announcement was too late to have any impact.
It wouldn’t have made sense to say it earlier in the summer because our numbers didn’t meet the public health metrics...isn’t that kind of the point. And shouldn’t schools have been preparing to open when public health metrics were met instead of just deciding to stay closed until arbitrary dates?
But he never even said what the metrics were until last week, right? He didn’t have to give districts the all-clear a month ago, but he could have told them what the state was looking for. Some counties probably did meet the metrics at that point. Further, he could have shown more empathy and understanding that this is going to be hard and that the state would work with local jurisdictions to figure this out. Instead, he just came off as kind of a jerk and Kate to the party.
16 districts of 24 already submitted plans and were in talks with the state BEFORE Hogan's announcement. That is why so many have already released reopening plans over the last 48 hours. As of today, 20 out of 24 districts have submitted reopening plans. If that doesn't show what a piss poor job MCPS is doing, I don't know what is. They have always played politics and victim to Hogan. Always. The counties knew about it. Erlich is playing deer in headlights and he looks like an f'ing fool. And people like you look like a fool for believing everything Erlich and the MCPS say
