When all those Republican candidates announced their candidacy in 2016 nobody took Trump seriously at first. Most of the initial focus was on Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio. It wasn’t until the audacious antics and tweets from Trump started capturing headlines every single day that most people actually gave him some serious thought.
