Mosby was a pretty interesting fellow from a historical standpoint—after the civil war he condemned the confederacy and became a staunch supporter of the US, campaigned for Grant, appointed a diplomat, only to have his house burned down by Confederate arsonists who felt betrayed by his change of heart.
There you go with your nuance again. No need to mentioned how Lee's surrender at Appomattox probably saved the country years of guerrilla warfare.
Is this some sort of Confederate fetish? Lee was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans in defense of the South’s authority to own millions of human beings as property because they are black.
See the point I make about nuance? At no time did I defend Lee. I just argued that things should be viewed in historic context. Don't worry. I don't expect anything from the DCUM crowd. Morons.
And see, at no time did I denounce Lee, just providing you some historical context. Viewing things in historical context means actually acknowledging history. The whole slavery thing and taking arms against his own country and being responsible for the deaths of U.S. soldiers doesn't go away because you think he surrendered with some class (barf).
I didn't say he surrendered with class. I said he surrendered in a way that would not lead to years of bloodshed from guerrilla warfare. This required the appropriate nuance from Lincoln and Grant. That you don't understand this is indicative of your side's desire to have total and complete victory and your inability to understand the potential bad consequences that might arise from this. Sow and you will reap the appropriate whirlwind. Your attitude demonstrates a sufficient childishness that may lead to a disaster, a consequence exactly the opposite of that which you claim to desire. This is exactly what you claim was the problem with Bush in the Iraq war.
