Face shields are a way more workable option for staff. I tried mine on today. It's like wearing glasses or a hat. And you can breathe!
Face Shields protect your eyes from airborne droplets - you still need to cover your nose and mouth - that's why you Drs & nurses in both.
The shield extends past my chin. Teachers can’t teach in a mask. At least not well. Kids won’t be able to hear me as I won’t have the oxygen supply to project. And students aren’t going to keep masks in either. We’re going to hope for the best and deal with periodic shutdowns most likely.
You can buy a wireless headset with earpiece and mic for about $25-30 on Amazon. You can buy a bluetooth speaker for about $30 on Amazon. Yes, I know it's a fair chunk of money to spend out of your pocket. I have plenty of teacher friends who bleed money throughout the year augmenting supplies and such for their classrooms out of their own pocket. But this is a one time expense that you can use throughout the year for all of your classes. Put on the headset and put the speaker somewhere prominent where it can broadcast to the entire room and you can speak in a normal voice without shouting or straining and the speaker can help the students hear you behind the face shield.
