So just when you thought coaches and clubs couldn't stoop any lower....I was told a kid (a 13 yr old) wanted to leave his current team to play for a neighboring team and the coach and staff contacted him and his parents and used past scholarship money that was given to them to guilt him into staying. What the hell is wrong with clubs. If a kid wants to leave, let him leave and wish them well. Now this kid is trapped at this club. He's a good player too. Sucks. I don't understand your post. How is he trapped at the club? Did he change his mind and no longer wants to leave because he feels guilty about getting financial aid from the club in prior years and wants to show some loyalty in return? He is free to do whatever he wants. It sounds like two clubs wanted him and reached out to him and he decided to stay, in part because his current club helped him financially. Not exactly, the player really wants to leave (the parents are indifferent) so they reached out to the other club. Once his current club found out, his current club guilted the player and parents by saying things like how can you leave when we let you play for free and we did this and did that, so they felt compelled to stay....even though they'd most likely be on scholarship on whichever club they moved to. So he is trapped because his parents feel too guilty to let his move even though they are free to do so.
If he and his family don't have the backbone to do what they think is best for them, then he's trapped as a result of that, not the club's decision to try to pressure them to stay.
