How do people not understand that opening up prematurely is BAD for business? LEt's say you open up. Can you afford to operate at half capacity? Let's say you can hold the line at 50% your usual foot traffic. Are you aware that much less than 50% feels comfortable going out and about for nonessential services? Lower demand will make you operate at even less than 50%. Can you still afford to operate? Let's say that people do actually feel comfortable coming out and there is a demand. Then cases spike again, triggering another lockdown. Can you afford to close up shop for another few months and resume this process all over again?
Ok. But when would you propose they reopen? Until they find a vaccine? They’ll all fail far before then
I'm not the PP, but I'm good with following the guidance of infectious-disease and public-health specialists. How about you?
Different PP, but no, I’m not. They have been wrong at every step - masks, no masks - vastly inflated projections that resulted in unnecessary shut downs in areas that weren’t NJ/NY. So they can advise but the government also needs input from others, including economists.
Infectious disease specialists: Everybody needs to stay home so vast numbers of people don't die. Many people: Mostly stay home. Infectious disease specialists: Good news, as a result of the staying-home, fewer people will die. Other people: What? Vast numbers of people won't die? That stay-home thing was a total overreaction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
