COVID/work/trying to homeschool, I had to have 4 surgeries in April (unrelated to COVID but an emergency), spent 10 days in the hospital, barely back on my feet....and now it turns out that the legal brief I had completely finished, except one section I had a junior working on, before my illness was somehow deleted from my hard drive and cloud during all this and the resulting kids on my computer trying to distance learn. I just want to give up. I spent weeks on it and not to pat myself on the back, but it was REALLY good. Now I have nothing but my random thoughts the first day I made the file, which changed so many times after that. At least I opened it today to add the junior's section and found out. I just can't. At least I have a little more time to recreate it, but honestly this is just devastating. I don't have the energy to do it all again. Also, my file of notes also poofed and has nothing but the names of the committee I was working with. NOTHING ELSE. I want to cry. I am so tired. Feel free to share your own vent, no matter how small. I am sure in a year I'll laugh about this, but now I just don't have it in me.
You should not be using your work computer for distance learning, lesson learned, get them their own computers. what the hell, i am sure this is a corporate violation and if nothing else bad practice
Thanks, that makes me feel so much better! My work (a small nonprofit) always provided me a shit computer so I finally bought a Mac and we agreed, by contract, I could use it for work (I have worked 100% from home for the last 10 years). I think most of us are trying to get by now with what we have instead of purchasing expensive items during a very uncertain time. Would it have been better practice to buy my kids their own? Of course. Feasible? Not so much. Glad you work for a place that doesn’t have to make financial tradeoffs! It must be fun in your fancy office, punching people who are down.
I love Macs but you could have bought a very serviceable PC and two chrome books for that price. But I have always had a computer for personal use, I mean how do you even apply for your next job??
OP here. Have you read anything I posted? I am not going to get fired, nor do I want a different job. I am damn good at what I do and I will make it happen, and it will be good. I don’t need to apply for another job and if I did, I am smart enough to figure that out. I generally love my computer. It isn’t my work’s fault or my fault that I didn’t foresee COVID-19, e-learning my elementary kids, or spending 10 days in the hospital and nearly dying, such that my kids were doing e-learning without my or my husband’s close supervision. I kind of feel sorry for you, that you need a special device to apply for new jobs as if that is a constant thing for a strong, happy employee. There’s always at least one on DCUM.
