I agree op should keep the info private but everyone I know looks up the sale price as houses sell in the neighborhood. There are people I know who are stunned that this is public info. Op, I am like you though. I wanna know.
When dh and I bought our house together before we married, he earned more than I did and he could have, in fact, qualified for the mortgage all on his own. I still put down 50% of the down payment, paid my half of the closing costs and I was put on the mortgage, as well as, the deed. We owned the house 50/50, yet when we sold the house years down the road, after we were married, only his name appears as "the seller" on property search records. I don't know why that is the case because when I looked up the property search before we sold both of our names were on it. I had to sign closing papers just as much as he did and both of our names had been listed on the county property search before we sold. If someone were to look at who sold the property today it would appear that dh was the only owner/seller which simply was not the case. So if someone looks that little tidbit up and feels scandalized by what they see on our county sale records, oh well. I absolutely owned the house, too, and I've got the records to prove it.
