USSF props up the women's pro league. W/o that money there is no NWSL. This whole system is an apples and oranges issue, yet the women tried to frame as inequity. The women wanted the guarantees of salary and other benefits from USSF that men dont't get then turn around and say they're not getting paid like the men. They're by far the highest-paid women's team in the world. I get they're more successful than the men, but they don't generate the potential revenue - mostly through World Cup money - that the men can. So they're pay structure is going to be different. The equal pay argument is for social and media outlets to cry discrimination. It's a false equivalency. Anyone in business understands that WNBA players get paid less than the NBA and it is isn't discrimination even if the Minnesota Lynx and Minnesota Timberwolvers achieve different success.
Yep, they cried wolf with the help of Social Justice Warriors and social media. What the players were talking about had nothing to do with the actual case. They have zero integrity.
I wouldn't call the integrity of the players in question, but the case was dismissed because women made more than men. Men would have made more if they won the world cup like women did, but judge only looked at the actual earnings, not theoretical ones.
Didn't say it was their integrity. But they clearly knew their argument was flawed and they had negotiated a CBA with specific differences than the men. The fact that it ended up earning them more money per game was immaterial, but showed how flawed their argument was. Reputable legal analysts all knew where this was going from Day 1. This was all a move to generate sympathy and improve their situation in the next bargaining period. They went scorched earth against the federation. It will be interesting to see how the federation reacts. It will also be interesting if the women really want to drop the guarantees and health coverage plus the support for the NWSL. Because if they want to be treated exactly like the men then they won't have a domestic pro league unless someone is willing to come in and inject millions of dollars in the hopes of building a profitable business. It has been tried before with big sponsors. It likely has a greater chance of success with the players having more notoriety.
