Not sure where you all live but my DS HS team was made up mostly of mid level travel players with some high level travel players mixed in. A handful who played in DA (albeit not able to stay at that level) but mostly CCL, EDP, Div 1 NCSL. Coaching can be hit or miss, but many of the varsity coaches in the area are travel coaches.
If your kid is a NCSL or CCL level HS age kid, yes, the quality of the soccer probably seems good.
Oh, right, all those u15-u19 boys teams from clubs like Arlington, Alexandria, SYC, Herndon, SDOR, etc. are terrible, right?
Remember the focus and title of the thread before you post here. Folks who say no to HS soccer aren’t interested in your up selling of HS soccer. You’re mistaking this thread for a debate about the pros or cons. It is simply who isn’t playing. You need not come here and be offended. Go play HS soccer and be happy. Again, with people seeking affirmation of their choices.
I'm not looking for anyone's approval or to convince anyone to play. My point is that there are good players and good teams out there. Yorktown last year, for instance, was a very talented team that played well. If you think you're better off without it because your club offers better training or it will take a toll/add risk of injury - makes total sense - but if it's all about the level being beneath your kid, odds are you're probably overrating your kid.
The last high school soccer game I saw was a playoff between Oakton and Washington-Lee, with the VA State Player of the Year playing for Oakton before going off to play for Notre Dame. I find the animosity towards HS soccer odd. Plenty of kids play both AAU and high school basketball though the level of play can be dramatically different. Unless your kid is Pulisic, Nyeman, Yow or a top DCU or Loudoun player, you probably need to relax and let them enjoy playing with friends if they want to do so. You must swoon if your kid wants to play pickup. My God, the thought of it! Fun! Improvisation!
must have been a boy - never happened on the girls side
Girls Gatorade Player of the year played HS soccer all 4 years. Playing at Georgetown now.
Nice! What next? "never happened to Top D1 Recruits Who Did Not Go to Outstanding Catholic Universities" What a joke. It's hard to figure out the agenda for anti-HSers but sometimes plain stupidity is the most plausible explanation.
Well in all fairness, all HS rosters are made up of Gatorade Players of the year. Of course HS soccer is amazing. But then again, this is a thread asking how many are choosing not to play HS soccer. The butt hurt by the HS crowd is hilarious. Nobody is taking your HS soccer away but nobody NEEDS to be impressed by it either.
