I was there for freshman year and transferred out. Very preppy, very southern, very Republican, and great (but challenging) academics. The frat scene was prominent if you wanted to socialize. I went there first for the strong academics and “traditional” college campus experience, but ultimately felt it was all a bit suffocating and opted for a larger urban school in the Northeast. That’s not to say people can’t thrive there as clearly many people like it. Still in touch with a few old classmates and they have all done very well professionally afterwards. Everyone is smart but the scene wasn’t right for me. This was 10+ years ago so maybe things have changed slightly but that was my experience.
I'm sorry it wasn't your scene but your characterization is inaccurate. It suggests that you only felt comfortable in a larger school environment that is primarily liberal kids from the Northeast and still feel the need to justify your decision. Davidson is about 40% Southern and many of the kids from the South are liberal Democrats, as is also the case for the students who come from the rest of the country. That is true now; it has also been the case for several decades.
Not PP but always find it funny that on the basis of one post this person can credibly try to conclude this “suggests that you only felt comfortable in a larger school environment that is primarily liberal kids from the Northeast and still feel the need to justify your decision.” This person revealed relatively little about their overall political views or even where they eventually wound up at school. And just because the school is in the northeast doesn’t mean it’s filled with liberal kids from the northeast. And saying Davidson is a liberal school is a bit of a stretch IMO....my sibling went there and would agree.
No one said it was a "liberal school," but PP incorrectly said it was "very southern, very Republican." Best to read before posting.
