We have a leave bank you can use if you’ve used up all of your other leave. Right now, if you have to be quarantined, you can use weather and safety leave. Taunting people for thinking it’s ridiculous to charge sick leave during an epidemic is stupid. This is not a typical situation.
Why is it ridiculous to use sick leave for when you are sick? That’s what it’s for. I mean I get why folks may not have a lot- this time last year I had just returned from maternity leave and didn’t have any left either. Thankfully the new maternity leave policy should cut down on these situations in the future. This isn’t Ebola or typhoid. Most cases have been mild and managers should work with infected employees to let them telework once they are feeling better enough to work but potentially still contagious. I’m more worried about the on site federal contractors who have NO paid sick leave to begin with and no leave bank to call on if needed. They were disproportionately affected by the shutdown last year too.
Because it makes it more likely people will go to work sick, thereby infecting others. It’s not complicated to understand why you need to make it as easy as possible for people to stay home.
