I've had rescue beagles. We had three beagles and a hound mix at one time. They all had very different personalities (dog-alities?). One was happy-go-lucky. Another one would shake when I even looked at her with anything resembling a stern face. They could be stubborn, loved those treats, but so sweet and cuddly and wonderful. One of them (the shaking one) insisted on being petted so much that I wanted to invent a petting hand machine. She would put her head under our hands when we would stop. The others appreciated being petted but then they would run along. They all slept in the king-sized bed with us. One would get completely under the covers. I don't know how she breathed under there, but it's what she insisted on doing. My current rescue dog isn't very cuddly and doesn't like to get on the bed. I miss that. I loved the baying - so cute. One time we were out walking and a fire truck drove by with its sirens. One of my beagles started baying along, which was so funny. We also rescued two cats and one of the cats thought she was a dog. She would follow us on walks. The other one was a scaredy cat and would run from the beagles, who delighted in chasing him. He practically lived under the bed for the first year. But after that, they became friends and cuddled together. What else? The hounds didn't really play fetch. I would throw something and they'd just look at me. :) And if they get out and get on the scent of something, they'll come home when they're damn good and ready. One time two of the beagles dug under the fence and got out. We were out shopping at Potomac Mills (we had a dog door so they could go in and out). When we got home, we were told that they had been all over the neighborhood having an adventure, but they were sitting on the porch waiting for us. Thank god nothing bad happened to them. The best dogs ever. So many need to be rescued and loved. I love hounds, but I love all creatures.
