This was DH and I. I didn't take it for granted, and neither did he, but then he died after we'd been together for 23 years. (no kids)

I have no intention of ever marrying again. I can't even imagine being lucky enough to have that happen twice. Someone to hang out with would be nice, but I'm okay on my own.

OP, I know this is off-tangent, and if you have always wanted to be married but it never happened, that will probably continue to be a sticking point for you. But as others have said, not everyone needs to be married--and even those who have had wonderful marriages end don't necessarily feel the need to jump right back in.
