Who gives a crap? I can’t stand Bernie, but this focus on his homes is ridiculous. Moreover, those places are not extravagant; in fact, the lake house looks like a dump. The DC place is referred to as an ‘apartment’. Those are townhomes. Does this mean Bernie rents an apartment in someone else’s home? Give it a rest. Focus on Bernie’s ideas, not his homes.
The Lakehouse is valued at $600,000, is waterfront, and has a guest house.
I don’t get it. He earned money. What do you want him to do with it?
He could donate some of it. He is in the top 5 percent of close to it yet donates very little.
As opposed to Donald Trump, who is not allowed to start a charitable foundation in at least 1 state? Sorry, this objection is weak sauce, and I’m not even a Bernie Bro!
That’s a low bar. Trump isn’t campaigning on taxing the rich and giving to the poor like Bernie is. Bernie should walk the walk.
+1 Trump is a capitalist, and unapologetically so. He doesn't need to justify how or why he lives in a lavish way compared with the rest of the country - he runs based on other strengths and policies. Whether you or I agree with them or not is irrelevant. Bernie is running on the idea that the wealthy being wealthy is disgusting and wrong, and that everyone should have the same amount of wealth. That's what socialism is. He can't have a vacation home - his third home! - that costs more than most people's first homes, even if you ignore all the people who are homeless in this country. It's so ridiculous that it's actually laugh-out-loud funny.
But the whole point of Republican limited government is that rich people like Trump would donate to charity and people would decide how they want to help the poor instead of the government. Or are you saying Trump is not a Republican?
I'm the PP. I can't speak for Donald Trump. I also can't speak for people like Oprah, who also have tons of money while knowing that people are hungry and hurting and that she could really use that money to help them. Personally, I'd feel quite uncomfortable being that wealthy and not giving a LOT more to charity than I believe they give. However, I can say for sure that I would never use my money to support a lot of the stuff that the government uses my money to support at the moment. Not sure what this has to do with Bernie claiming to believe that being rich is a sin while he's living a life of luxury in multiple expensive homes and some of us are renting a crappy place and struggling to pay for childcare. Or worse.
