I had similar reservations about a baby/toddler who was in a Lifetime movie I watched several years ago (don't judge me, lol) about domestic violence (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Cry_for_Help:_The_Tracey_Thurman_Story). There's a scene where the title character is horribly and violently beaten while her baby/toddler is watching. In the scene, the baby is wailing. Obviously, no one was actually getting beaten, but the baby isn't aware of that. I'd have a really difficult time subjecting my child to that kind of upset and trauma.
The child didn’t see that. I know they filmed it to make it appear that way, but it isn’t realty. Kiernan Shipka did an interview about this - finally watching mad men when she was older and seeing the difference between what she was told to react to when they filmed her part of the scene, and what the final scene was really about.
They did this with The Shining, too. They filmed it in a backwards way and explained it vaguely so the kid who played Danny Torrance didn’t know what was really going on. He said he had no idea what it had been until he was much older.
